Strappe > Cecilville Road runs along the south fork of the Salmon River.
Strappe > The south fork and the north fork come together to make the Salmon River at Forks of Salmon.

I stopped at the tiny store there for a bottle of water and asked about the snow in the mountains. Somehow I triggered the storekeeper on one of her pet grievances. I expect she has many.

I dunno why she thought I was a Sierra Club member, maybe because I bought a bottle of water instead of a beer.

As she got madder and madder, I quickly finished my water, backed away out to the parking lot, hopped on the SV and fled.

No pictures of the charming little town. I was afraid to hang around.

If you stop in Forks of Salmon, don't stay in her motel. If you do stay in the motel, don't take a shower! :o
Strappe > The Salmon River road is one of my favorites. In many places there's a steep drop down to the river.

In these parts, a road repair consists of a white stake driven into the ground to mark where the road has fallen away.
Strappe > You should pay attention to these white stakes!
Strappe > I guess it's 60 to 80 feet down to the river along here.
Strappe > As Blues Traveler reminds us,
"It's a loooooooong - way to fall!"

Strappe > I continued on Salmon River Road to Hwy. 96, then on south to Hwy. 299 at Willow Creek.

West on 299 to Eureka and on to Fortuna for the night. Dinner at the Eel River Brewing Company.

More to come: next is the Lost Coast.
Strappe > Up the street from my motel in Fortuna.

Many people in Fortuna keep bison as household pets.
