Strappe > Looking to the northeast from the north side of the mountain. I don't know what that lake is called.

Strappe > Don't know what the mountain is, either.

Strappe > Heading up Hwy. 89 to Hwy. 299, then northeast on 299 to Bieber. There I turned north on Lookout Road.

Strappe > About 25 miles from the Oregon border I turned west on Forest Service Road 97 towards Glass mountain, which was my goal for the day.

Strappe > Only 3 miles to Glass Mountain.

But there were obstacles. I got around this one.

Strappe > I'm becoming acutely aware that it's getting later (5 PM) and I'm all alone up here. Haven't seen a car for the last hour.

Another half mile up the road: snow. I tried to get through it, but not a chance. I might have made it on the right side of the road, but that hill is very steep.

Did I mention that I'm all alone here?

Strappe > OK, back down. Around the tree to the paved road. In a couple of miles there's another road to Glass Mountain.

Hmmm. More of the same.

Strappe > I can't get to the volcanic obsidian fields, but there were other sights.
