Strappe > Time to do some exploring. I set off from Concord with the intention of going over Mt. Lassen, then up north to Glass Mountain.

Freeway and Hwy 99 to Chico, then up Hwy 32 towards Mt. Lassen. First stop, Chico Creek:

Strappe > A good spot for lunch.

Strappe > Highway 32 heads northeast towards Lassen.

Strappe > I took a side trip on highway 172 to Mineral for gas. Good view of Mt. Lassen:

Strappe > The mountain meadows around here are a strange color. I guess it's because they're really marshes at this time of year.

Dave Sapsis explains further:
"Jim, If you were referring to the rusty/reddish color of the meadows, that is actually due to the plant composition -- sedges, a genus of grasslike plants common to wet areas, have reddish stems. They are easily identifiable up close by their triangular shaped cross section stems. They also tend to
grow in groups somewhat dominating the plant cover in areas, lending the mottled reddish color to portions of meadows."

Strappe > Mt. Lassen's roads were clear again. Last week they were closed because of snow - in the middle of June!
